On Tuesday, December 18th Xbox Support announced on Twitter that they would be expanding their refund policy for copies of Cyberpunk 2077 purchased from the Microsoft Store. This news comes after a rash of negative press towards Cyberpunk 2077, namely on base versions of last-gen consoles. Cyberpunk 2077 has been criticised for having exceptionally poor optimization on last gen consoles, often cited as being “unplayable.” This change in policy runs opposite to the stance Microsoft was taking earlier in the week.
In the tweet thread, Xbox Support acknowledges the hard work that CD PROJEKT RED put into the game. However, they also acknowledge that many people on older consoles are not happy with their experience playing the game. On the refund page for Xbox Support they have a section dedicated directly to the refund policy regarding Cyberpunk 2077. Currently there aren’t specific guidelines as to who is and is not eligible for a refund. Adding a bit of clarity, the Xbox Support team stated that “To date, we have granted refunds to the vast majority of customers who have requested one.”
Sony has taken similar action with Cyberpunk and has even gone so far as to delist it from their store. Since release, CD PROJEKT RED has been taking steps to improve player experience. Late Tuesday, they released a hotfix patch to improve stability for consoles.
