Yesterday, Bloober Team announced that they have delayed The Medium, their upcoming psychological horror game, from it’s December release date. Bloober will now launch The Medium on January 28th 2021, just a month later than originally planned. The news comes from The Medium‘s Twitter page.
Various Reasons Cited for the Delay
The Medium‘s delay is another big blow for the launch of the Xbox Series X and S. After Halo Infinite‘s delay, The Medium became the big launch game to watch, largely thanks to it’s use of the SSD that will be standard with the new consoles. The team cited various reasons for the delay, including Covid 19’s impact on development. They also indicated that they want to avoid the new launch date of Cyberpunk 2077 in December. Now, players will have to wait even longer to experience the dual realities that Bloober Team have created.
The Medium tells the tale of Marianne, a medium who can travel into the spirit realm. The real world and the spirit realm will both me visible on screen, with the player moving Marianne through both simultaneously. This gives Marianne many strange psychic abilities and allows her to solve puzzles in both planes.
Bloober Team, previously known for Layers of Fear 1 and 2 along with Blair Witch, are well-versed in psychological horror. It’s safe to say that this will be a defining experience of the Xbox Series X/S launch window.
The Medium launches on January 28th 2021 for Xbox Series X, Series S and PC. You can preorder it on the Xbox Series X here for $44.99. Furthermore, it will also be on Xbox Game Pass from launch.
