The Five Games We’re Looking Forward to in 2021

2020 was a great year for gaming, with titles such as Doom: Eternal, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Call of Duty: Warzone all making their debuts. But a new year is upon us and I’m ready for a new batch of games to spend all my time on. Here are the 5 games I’m looking forward to in 2021.

Gotham Knights

It’s been almost 6 years since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight, and fans of the caped crusader have been waiting for the two studios who have worked on the Arkham franchise to announce their next games. Luckily for them, they don’t have to wait long. WB Games Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins, have a new game set to release in 2021. Straying away from the usual action-adventure Batman games to a more action-RPG driven game, the story sees Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood step up to protect Gotham after the apparent death of Bruce Wayne. And that’s what excites me.

Taking the spotlight away from Batman and putting it on the Batman family is a great way to show that these characters are more than just sidekicks. These characters are dynamic and interesting, so I’m excited to see WB Games Montreal’s take on them. The second part that interests me is the mechanics of it, seeing how it’s going to be an action-RPG game. Leveling up our characters, our abilities and who knows what else sounds like a fun time.

You can find out more about the game in their official website.

Untitled Battlefield (2021)

I’ve played plenty of first-person shooters in my lifetime, and some of them to tend to blend in with each other, but not Battlefield. The gigantic maps with the dozens of other players makes for a chaotic yet fun adventure. Trying to take over the objectives as you are surrounded by enemies, tanks and planes gives you a feeling few other games can give you . The previous installment, Battlefield V, was released in 2018 and was set in World War II.

It will be interesting to see what the franchise has planned for its first next-gen game, and what they decide to add or leave behind. I was a fan of how the previous installments focused on the world wars, but it’d be nice to see the franchise return to a modern setting. Another wish is for them to figure out how to add more players so that the games becomes even more wild. Unfortunately, there’s very little information on this 2021 game but I’m hoping we find out more in the upcoming months.

Halo: Infinite

A game that fans have been waiting a long time for, Halo: Infinite has had a bumpy road so far. Hopefully, it will change when it comes out in 2021. Now, I’m going to be honest, I haven’t played a Halo game in a while. But its been more than 5 years since the previous game, and I’m fully on the hype train to see the future of the franchise.

Halo is the Xbox poster boy. When you think of its flagship games, the first two that come to mind are Gears of War and Halo. You see Master Chief all the time in the commercials. So, as a fan of Xbox you can’t help but be excited. With the promise of a more Master Chief centered campaign, the franchise seems like it could return to its roots.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum

If you were to ask me to pick my favorite trilogy, Lord of the Rings would be my immediate answer. And one of my favorite characters of the series is Gollum. The ring-crazy creature is one of the most complex characters of the story and I can’t get enough of him.

IGN did an interview with the developers where they said the game would focus on stealth and decision making. If I were to think of a game to add into the Tolkien world, a stealth game wouldn’t be on top of the list. Although this isn’t what I expected, I am nonetheless excited. And I have to give the developers credit for thinking out the box. Whether we’ll see characters from the Tolkien books make appearances is yet to be seen, but I’m sure Gollum is enough to carry the game by himself.

Hogwarts: Legacy

I can’t remember the first time I watched a Harry Potter film or the first time I read one of the books. But I’ve been a fan of the franchise for what seems like my entire life. The films and books are great, but I always felt like they could’ve explored the world more. So, I was beyond ecstatic when this game was announced.

According to the game’s official website, it will be an action-RPG, and that seems like a perfect fit. Being able to customize your character and your abilities makes me excited to see what crazy spells and potions will be available.

The second part that makes me excited is the story. The website states that the game will take place in the 1800’s, far removed from Voldemort and Harry Potter. It will be interesting to see all the new characters and find out about their stories. Not to mention being able to walk around Hogwarts and explore all its secrets will be a dream come true. The release date can’t come fast enough.

These are just 5 games that I’m looking forward to in 2021, but there are plenty more that I’m excited about. What games are you excited about? You can head over to our forums and let us know. You can check out more opinions and features here.
