Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds monthly content update launched today, bringing some exciting new content! There are fierce combat encounters to do and fiery rewards to earn. Along with that comes some welcome fixes and accessibility options to make the game more enjoyable.
New enemies have risen in the Sea of Thieves. Captain Flameheart has unleashed his four Ashen Lords to battle your pirate crew. Defeat them to earn some ashen loot, including the brand new Ashen Lord Skull. Don’t sell it straight away though! This skull doubles up as a fearsome weapon – it breathes flames when activated. Use it to torch skeletons, other players and, of course, their ships!
Don’t expect these to be easy to earn though. Ashen Lords come with their own destructive new abilities. For example, they can summon ash clouds to cloak the player in darkness. If that doesn’t stop you, they can also breathe fire to stop you in your tracks! Still fighting? Watch out for the flaming rocks they hurl at you! If you’re somehow still standing then the Ashen Lords have one last trick up their sleeves – the Roar of the Devil. This will bring rocks crashing down to the island, causing lots of damage and sending your crew flying.
How to Locate Ashen Lords
Look out for a flaming vortex on the horizon as this indicates the location of an Ashen Lord! Sail to the island it is spiralling from and there you will find the boss encounter with one of four Ashen Lords. Manage to defeat the Ashen Lord and you will see geysers erupt around you, making Ashen loot spill out from underground – including the coveted Ashen Lord skull!
Most of you will want to get straight to burning (that’s my first reaction too!) but hold on just a moment! Using the Ashen Lords Skull as a weapon reduces the charge in the Ashen Crystal housed within. As this Crystal loses it’s charge, the skull loses it’s value! Now there’s a choice every pirate will struggle with! Do you return the skull fully charged for the most gold possible, or do you wreak havoc on your foes?
Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds Rewards
That’s not all you’ll see in the Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds update! There are new commendations being added for defeating the Ashen Lords. These reward the player with new titles and tattoos based on Ashen Winds. If that’s not enough for you, there’s also an Ashen Winds Skull Sail to give your ship a fiery new appearance!
For all you achievement hunters out there, new achievements have also arrived! There are four in total, one for killing each of the Ashen Lords. These will give 10 Gamerscore each.
Fixes and Accessibility Options
New content isn’t all this update brings. A much needed hit registration fix has now arrived to polish the game. There was an issue with this as players would often go into the lower decks of the ship and then shoot up. This would allow them to be hidden and the shots would still register, damaging the opponent. This has now been fixed and hits will no longer register through solid objects. Another exciting change is that defeating Skeleton Ships will now reward the player with storage crates. These storage crates will contain food, wooden planks and cannonballs. This means the player can now replenish their supplies after a tough battle.
Accessibility options have also arrived to ease the adventure for some players. There is a single stick option, meaning movement and camera control can now be on the same stick. As well as this, there is now an option to have the camera automatically recenter after looking around. To help those who are afraid of the oceans depths, there is also now an option to make your character automatically float.
Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds Events
For the duration of the Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds update, there is a new event, Skull Sweep, to make sure everyone comes and experiences the new content. It will happen every Wednesday and will increase reputation and gold for all loot handed in to the Order of Souls. This is alongside the Gold Rush event that continues to happen every Wednesday from 6-7PM BST and PDT. This regular event causes all loot to get a 1.5x multiplier for an hour. Daily bounties also continue, so there’s lots of content to dive into as always.
So what are ye waiting for? Go set sail and conquer the Ashen Lords now in the Sea of Thieves Ashen Winds update!
