New Overwatch 2 Gameplay, Maps, and More Revealed

When it comes to unique first-person shooters, Blizzard’s Overwatch is up there as the most interesting. Overwatch manages to mix different playstyles for a fun, 6v6 player game with different characters and abilities. Overwatch 2 is in development right now, and it’s making some big changes. New details have emerged from the upcoming title. Here’s what you need to know about the new Overwatch 2 gameplay, maps, and designs.

Overwatch 2 Gameplay Details

Since the beginning, Overwatch has been a 6v6 game. Players can choose from three different character categories, a damage character, a tank character, and a supporting character. It’s up to the players to create a well-balanced team that has enough of each of the categories, but it seems as if the core gameplay will change in Overwatch 2. Instead of a 6v6 game, the team size will reduce to 5.

Although this doesn’t seem like a big deal, it changes how the game is played entirely. Players will have to change their team to fit with this new style and will have to decide which characters to let go of from the team. In an Overwatch 2 official video, the developers say the new group dynamic will be: two supporting characters, two damage characters, and one tank. How this exactly affects gameplay remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see.

New Maps and Character Design

Apart from the gameplay change, more maps have been announced. Overwatch prides itself on being diverse and having map locations all over Earth (and even one on the Moon), and Overwatch 2 continues that tradition. 5 new maps were showcased, each of them different in their own ways. The 5 new maps are New York, Toronto, Monte Carlo, Rio, and Rome. Sometimes it gets tedious playing the seemingly same map over and over, so it’s nice to see the team working on an abundance of new maps.

Besides the new map, we saw a new design for the character Torbj√∂rn. The Swedish engineer gets a sleek, more refined look for Overwatch 2. This isn’t the first new design for the characters, many if not all, characters are getting new designs for the upcoming game. Check out his new look and the new maps in the official video below.

With so many changes to the Overwatch 2 gameplay, it’ll be interesting to see how this changes the franchise. It makes for an exciting time, and we can’t wait for more news to come out. What do you think about these new additions and changes? Let us know in our Discord!
