Minecraft Dungeons: Tips and Tricks for New Heroes

Are you looking to enter the Minecraft Dungeons for the first time? Here’s a few tips and tricks that should make your adventures more successful and loot filled.

Rinse and Repeat

Minecraft Dungeons is an action-adventure dungeon crawler. This genre of games is designed to be played over and over again in order to gain more powerful and varied gear/weapons.

Before you enter a dungeon, you’ll be able to choose a difficulty level. This will increase the number of mobs inside and how tough they are to vanquish. The higher the difficulty the higher the level of the loot you will collect. Simple. You’ll see a recommended power level too; I suggest always setting the difficulty level above this, especially if you teaming up with friends. By doing this you’ll give yourselves a more challenging and rewarding experience.

Spend or Save?

As you progress through Minecraft Dungeons you will acquire emeralds. These emeralds are exchanged for gear or artifacts chests from traders, located in the staging area. The chests are linked to your level but the items inside are random.

The higher your level the more the chests cost. Should you save up your emeralds until you’re a higher level or just spend each time you get the chance? I would generally say it doesn’t make much of a difference. Loot you collect and rewards you receive for completing dungeons will, inevitably, be better than anything in these chests. So, feel free to spend away.

Don’t Be a Hoarder

I am a self-confessed hoarder but that does not benefit you in Minecraft Dungeons. You will pick up a fair number of weapons and gear throughout the dungeons. As you level up, much of this loot will quickly become obsolete. Don’t let them clutter up your inventory, instead salvage these items in return for emeralds. Cha-ching!

Upgrade to Your Hearts Content

With each level you gain you will receive an enchantment point. These are used to enchant your weapons and gear. Don’t hold back using these because, unlike some dungeon crawlers, you will gain back your enchantment points through salvaging.

Arrows are Finite

The ranged weapons are really useful and it can be tempting to just spam out arrows. Try not to do this. If there’s only a few mobs around you, utilize your melee weapons as there’s no cost. You’ll thank me later when you’re in a boss fight and you need to keep your distance. Also, if you’re playing with friends be mindful that some loot is shared so keep an eye on everyone’s ammo. Your allies are pretty useless to you if they have no ranged ability.

Keep Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin

There’s a reason you character has a roll ability and it’s not just to avoid those creeper explosions. In some dungeons you will see a seemingly unreachable chest. These can be accessed by using your roll/dodge ability to clear the gap. A few enchantments also weaponize your roll ability, so don’t forget to use it.

Explore Your Staging Area

Whenever you return to your staging area make sure you explore about. Every so often a chest will have spawned containing 50 free emeralds. You Can’t turn down free emeralds now can you!

Form a Dream Team

Minecraft Dungeons is a solo experience but it is so much more fun and rewarding when you play with friends. You can play online or locally with 4 people so grab your blockiest buddies and take on the mobs together.

As mentioned above, be sure to take on the higher difficulty dungeons when playing with others. This will enhance your experience and also test your teamwork. When you do play with others, and a teammate goes down, the game gets a lot harder. You will have 30 seconds to revive your fallen ally before you take damage from the night. Because of this I would suggest equipping any artifact that summons a companion (like the wolf or golem). These companions can act as a distraction that can buy you just enough time to revive your friend.

So, there’s just a few tips and tricks to keep in mind when setting out on your Minecraft Dungeons adventure. Let us know if you have any other tips for your fellow blocky heroes. Stay tuned to Generation Xbox for more great gaming content.
