Warner Bros’ LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga left us immensely impressed at E3 2019, with an open world approach, hundreds of playable characters, and missions that make players feel like they’re part of the Star Wars universe. Since last year’s E3, however, the team at TT games has been largely silent regarding the much anticipated game. Today, to help celebrate Star Wars Day, TT Games released art from the game that helps us understand some of what we might expect later this year.
Speaking with StarWars.com, Jonathan Smith and Craig Derrick from TT Games provided a lot of new information about the game. Regarding the entirely new scale of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in comparison to other LEGO video games in the past, Smith stated:
“As fans, we were always going to go big! With the conclusion of the Skywalker saga in Episode IX, and 15 years since the first LEGO Star Wars, it really felt like the right time to aim as high as possible; to create a LEGO landmark.”Jonathan Smith, head of production and strategic developer
Players will be able to drop into the game at any point during the saga, and hundreds of playable characters will provide a new, unique experience for fans of any age, regardless of their favorite trilogy. To ensure accuracy, the team at TT Games built LEGO models of ships by hand only to destroy them, and even studied the effects of sand, water, and various other environments on the LEGOs to create a realistic game experience.
The box art for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga pays tribute to each of the trilogies, and hints at the possibility of large-scale battles taking place within the game. Players will be able to experience this first hand later this year when LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
