Halo Infinite Update: What Will 343 Show Next?

After months of almost pure silence, 343 Industries pledges to make a great comeback with a “high level Halo Infinite Update” in December. This is making the Halo community incredibly excited in a way that we haven’t seen in months. After all, it’s been a tough year for that Halo community, as Infinite was seemingly plunged into development hell after the game’s delay to 2021.

343 has a great opportunity to bring everybody together and make Halo Infinite the most anticipated game once again. Fans are more eager than ever before for new information, new footage and of course, new trailers.

But what can we expect from this update? A new trailer, new gameplay footage? Or just screenshots and in-game renders? Will it be enough to fulfil our wishes?

1 – Improved Graphics

Undoubtedly, the Halo fanbase’s biggest disappointment with the Halo Infinite gameplay, which was presented at the Xbox Games Showcase in July, was the graphics. Fans spotted many issues, such as bad lighting, low quality rendering and textures that seemed rather mediocre. Considering the game was meant to be the showcase for the most powerful console ever, it is clear why fans were upset.

The poor textures and 3D models even led to a viral meme thanks to the poor quality of this Brute, nicknamed “Craig” by fans.

Back in July, the Marketing Manager for Xbox, Aaron Greenberg, claimed that “it’s just going to get better and better” when asked about the graphics. However, Halo Infinite was delayed just a few weeks later. Whether he was correct remains to be seen.

The update coming this December is a great opportunity for 343 Industries to restore confidence. They are surely eager to win back over the weary fanbase and recreate the excitement around Halo Infinite that has largely vanished since the Summer.

But how would 343 do that? Through a new trailer or just a few screenshots?

2 – A Multiplayer Reveal Trailer

Show, don’t tell. Authors and marketing gurus alike stand by this sentiment. The same needs to be true for the gaming industry. For the past few months, 343 has made its biggest announcements through the Halo Waypoint blog, but perhaps now it’s time to show us these changes.

343’s Halo Infinite update could be done with an epic trailer, but what might they show? One of the best ideas I have is a multiplayer reveal trailer. This could be the perfect way to show fans that the team will deliver on what matters, whilst also showcasing the enhanced graphics.

The multiplayer mode is one of the most iconic and crucial parts of the legendary Halo Franchise. This has been true ever since its first release in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved. Without competitive and casual modes to enjoy, Halo would not be as popular as it is today.

The Campaign has been shown twice, but the game’s multiplayer hasn’t had the same luxury. Now’s the time to give fans what they want.

3 – Beta Announcement

Halo: The Master Chief Collection was one of the most anticiped games of 2014, featuring 4 legendary games in one collection. It also came with an ambitious esports plan, the Halo Championship Series. Many hoped this would revitalise the franchise’s fanbase.

Fans were extremly excited to play with their friends in a vast list of multiplayer modes. Yet the game’s launch was actually quite the disappointment. Servers wouldn’t work as intended, connection issues were affecting everyone and the game was left in a broken state for some time. After that unfortunate debacle, 343 vowed to provide a beta for all of their future games in order to avoid the same from happening again.

That’s why Halo Infinite will surely have a beta, or a ‘flight’ as 343 call it. The studio hasn’t revealed when this is going to happen, but announcing a date after a multiplayer reveal would be a fantastic surprise.

What modes will the beta feature? We don’t know yet, but players can expect the classic 4v4 Arena modes, akin to the Halo 5 beta.

4 – A Release Date

In August, Halo Infinite was sadly postponed to 2021. This was a polarising decision, making some fans angry whilst providing relief to others. It’s been 4 months since the delay and we have very little evidence to point to a new release date. However, it could be coming sooner than expected according to Master Chief actor Bruce Thomas.

“As far as I know, it’s in the can, ready to go for next Spring”.

Perhaps Bruce is right and the game will launch within a few months. However, we are yet to hear official confirmation from the developers. This month’s Halo Infinite update is the perfect opportunity to share a firm date.

5 – The Worst Case Scenario: Just a Few Screenshots On a Blog Post

343 are often criticised for their communication with the Halo community. In recent months, the fanbase has read numerous blog posts that reveal very little about the game, or lead to even more confusion. Unfortunately, we need to consider the possibility that December’s update could be more of the same. Words on a screen that hint towards gameplay without showing anything exciting.

343 have frequently used Halo Waypoint to provide updates in the past, so it’s best to temper expectations now. Whilst we all hope for a new trailer showcasing fantastic gameplay and visuals, we must also prepare for more vague screenshots and words.

These are the various options we can expect to see later this month. 343 have confirmed this substantial update is coming in December, so make sure to stay tuned to Generation Xbox for all the latest news!

Halo Infinite is expected to launch in 2021 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows 10 PC. The game will also launch on the Xbox Game Pass service, meaning it will probably be playable on Android. You can find Halo Infinite on the Xbox Store here.
