Grounded: Big Koi Update Lands on Xbox

Grounded has recently got it’s Big Koi Pond update. Adding a new pond biome, aggressive killer Koi and diving bell spiders.

As well as the previously mentioned Koi boss and spiders. There will also be tadpoles and water boat men. These boat “men” aren’t what the name suggests but rather little bugs you can slay for fin flops. These make it easier to traverse through the water and are among the new wearables available as well as the bubble helmet and Koi armour. For the latter of these you will have to tackle the big Koi.

“Like everything in Grounded, The Koi Pond is a work in progress, and we want to incorporate your feedback to make it the best it can be,” Obsidian writes in its update post. “This is just the start of development of this area, and our team is already hard at work adding more into the pond, including a large revamp of the lab in the depths which will add more content and variety of gameplay.”

The fixes introduced by this update are numerous. HDR support and “The player now breathes through their face” are examples of the changes made. Explosive damage can no longer be blocked. Bows have been buffed and poison deals 50% more damage than it used to. These are just a few of the changes being made.

Grounded has now registered five million players. Obsidian has also hinted at what’s to come in the future. They promise that it will still receive patches every month. Larger content releases will now spread out and become more substantial in between these patch updates. The Koi pond will remain in ongoing development since the game remains in early access. Haze and Sandbox areas are going to be added to once the Koi Pond is done.

“Once we feel all the content is in a good place, the next step is a story, quest and content pass over all the existing labs. The goal is to unify the experience by adding quest connective tissue and satisfying payoff for completing each lab. In an upcoming story update, you will be able to complete this quest. Which will tie into what we are calling the first story chapter of Grounded.”

Grounded is available now to play on Xbox Game Pass.
