Dying Light 2 developers Techland have hinted at brand-new development updates for the new year.
The news comes from a message within the official Dying Light Discord channel. The message reads:
“@DyingLight Happy Holidays from the Dying Light team! We’ve been, er, dying to update you all on how development has been going. We’ll have fresh updates about Dying Light 2 coming in the new year!”Uncy_Techland
Any information about the upcoming sequel is welcome at this point. After an announcement that the game would be delayed back in January of 2020, Techland has kept relatively quiet. Details about the open-world zombie fest are limited, but here’s what we know so far.
What We Know About Dying Light 2
Although we don’t have an official release date or many details about Dying Light 2, we have a general idea of what it has to offer. It’s clear that the sequel will paint a much larger picture of an apocalyptic setting and go in-depth on the broken society it creates. Different factions dominate the city, and decision making and sacrifices will be the key to survival. More emphasis on human encounters won’t detract from the threat of the undead, however.
Zombies will lurk within buildings and darkness during the daytime and wait to search for their prey at night. This means that certain areas can’t be explored until the sun goes down and their undead inhabitants have flown the coop. It’s an interesting development of the night-and-day features of 2015’s Dying Light.
Gameplay demos from 2018 and E3 2019 show off more of the brutal first-person combat that the first game captured so well. Weapon modification is back, something Techland had mastered since the release of Dead Island back in 2011. Along with some fiery combat, we get a glimpse of the massive world that you’ll be able to operate in. Large, connected buildings are perfect for the smooth parkour abilities that Dying Light blends into its environment.
