Welcome to another installment of Call of Duty corner. Yesterday in a separate piece, I gave my thoughts on the Black Ops Cold War Beta. But today, I will focus on The Haunting of Verdansk content drop for Warzone and Modern Warfare, which is live now!
I Want to Play a Game..
For the first time, Call of Duty is bringing Halloween to a console or PC near you. Dropping October 20th, is The Haunting of Verdansk event which features characters from both the Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre universe. For horror movie fans like myself, this should be quite the treat for Halloween. The limited-time event runs through November 3rd, just one week before the launch of the Xbox Series X/S and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
There is some backstory to the event, but the short version is operators are getting picked off left and right, while a couple of serial killers are on the loose. One operator survives and deploys to avenge his fallen brothers. As part of the event, “trick or treat” supply boxes will drop and include either an excellent blueprint or something not so excellent. Also new in the event is a night time variant of Verdansk, which should offer up some extra scary vibes. On top of new weapon bundles, the biggest news is a limited time Zombie Royale mode in Warzone.
Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre Bundles
Two horror-themed bundles are dropping in the Haunting of Verdansk update, and include new weapons, skins, and more. The Saw bundle includes a skin for Billy the Puppet (pictured above), as well as ‘The Phlebotomozier Lethal Equipment piece,’ which is a throwing knife that once making contact drills into your enemy. Finally, two weapon blueprints add some treat to your bag, with both an assault rifle and shotgun.
The second bundle is Texas Chainsaw Massacre themed, and includes a Leatherface skin (!) and the ‘Family Heirloom’ LMG blueprint with a custom chainsaw stock . Two additional weapon blueprints come in this bundle, one of which turns your secondary weapon into a hammer melee weapon, and the other being an SMG. Additional themed personalization content is available in both of these bundles too.
Several other bundles are available in the content update, including original villain skins in-theme with the spooky event, as well as additional weapon blueprints. One of these brand new weapons is the JAK-12, a fully automatic shotgun.
Nighttime battles in Verdansk are now available in select Warzone game modes. From the sounds of it, you may encounter characters from both Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre live in the game, on top of player skins (make sure to lookout for a chainsaw wielding maniac near Farmland). Additionally, a train of perished operators might be located near the train station.
As mentioned, special supply boxes will give players the chance to obtain limited-time weapon blueprints, charms, calling cards, more. But be careful when opening these boxes, as you never know what might come out first!
Finally, Zombie Royale is the brand new game mode available, giving players the chance to fight against or alongside zombies. Instead of heading to the Gulag, players will respawn as zombies. You will have supernatural abilities as a zombie but no weapons. But, players also have the chance to come back as an operator! Collect two syringes from fallen operators to parachute back in with your loadout. Last squad standing with at least one living operator wins.
Modern Warfare Updates
Separate from The Haunting of Verdansk, Modern Warfare is loaded with new holiday-themed updates as well. Killstreaks in multiplayers are now visually indicated on players by pumpkin heads. Three kills in a single life spawns a standard jack-o-lantern, while 10 kills sets it ablaze. Be sure to keep an eye out for flaming pumpkin heads though to squash their bonuses. Additional visual updates include scarecrows instead of flags and skulls instead of dogtags,
Two new modes go-live in multiplayer, Onslaughter and Snipers Only. In Onslaughter, teams must fight over a spawned juggernaut suit and move it to a target area. Snipers Only is exactly what you expect, a Team Deathmatch variant with snipers as the only allowable guns. Five pre-built loadouts replace custom loadouts in this mode.
