On Monday, streamers uncovered the link to a webpage. The URL is pawntakespawn.com/tv, eluding to the famous chess match of the Cold War era between the US and the Soviet Union. This site showed an old TV linked to a VCR player. The VCR player had 08:14 flashing, followed by the number 12:00, indicating we would get another piece of the puzzle August 14th at 12PM Eastern Time. Click here to catch up on everything that happened up until then. Today, the Call of Duty 2020 puzzle continues.
The day before that, a post-stick note was put on the TV. This had ‘/tangledweb’ written on it. If you add this to the pawntakespawn url it takes you to another page, showing a letter.
The letter reads:
“Wars are won not just on the battlefield, but behind closed doors.
Tactics. Maneuvers. Strategies.
All pieces of a complex puzzle that means the difference between life and death – conquering or being conquered.
Codes. Signals. Ciphers.
Secret communications used by enemies and allies for thousands of years.
The plot unfolding now is decades in the making. It will not be unravelled overnight.
While some battles can be won swiftly, others will take days to unfold.
You have found the first piece of many.
Relish the journey. It’s all part of the game.
The spoils of victory come not to those in haste, but to those who know –
“Every battle is won before it is ever fought.”
Know your history.”
Reveal Due for August 19th?
Another URL was added to the note at 12 PM ET today. This one said “/EMC2”, which takes players to another page showing the above image. This indicates we may see five more days of this puzzle, with a full reveal hopefully coming on August 19th. Until then, the Call of Duty 2020 puzzle continues.
Cold War Clips
When 12 ET finally came, the TV turned on and showed static. A VCR tape was next to it, and when pressed it started showing a lengthy clip about President John F Kennedy and his many speeches relating to the Cold War and landing on the moon, along with various other news clips from the era. The clips showed other key figures from the Cold War conflict as well, like Soviet Union leader Khrushchev and Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
This of course confirms the game will be set during the Cold War, as had already been heavily rumoured. There were a few other interesting details during this clip. The first is that numbers, very similar to those core to the Black Ops 1 campaign, flashed on the screen. 37, 25 and 48 all flashed on the screen. This heavily points to the return of Mason, the main character from Black Ops 1, as he was central to the ‘numbers’ storyline in the original game.
Call of Duty 2020 Puzzle Continues in Warzone
Whilst the video continued to play, a code flashed up on the VCR: WZ-H6-49285 163. This was the next part of the puzzle, and Warzone players quickly interpreted this as a code. They found a barn in Warzone with a keypad by a door inside. When the numbers in the code were entered, the door opened. Inside the room players found various documents, but a few seemed especially important.
Call of Duty 2020 Puzzle Continues
With two of these images containing references to Quarry and Boneyeard, this seems like the logical next step for Warzone players to explore. For now, the Call of Duty 2020 puzzle continues.
