Now that the next generation of Xbox consoles are close to arriving, it’s time to start receiving news about games that will be upgraded. The most usual thing should be that they arrive via Smart Delivery. Gearbox Software has confirmed that Borderlands 3 will also get upgraded for Xbox Series X and Series S.
They did it in their own event that took place a week ago, at PAX Online 2020. At this event they communicated that both Xbox and Playstation will receive a Borderlands 3 upgrade for their next generation consoles. This upgrade will add 4K resolution and 60 fps, as well as some other very striking options.
Borderlands 3 will also receive improvements for Xbox Series X and Series S, but it’s clarified in small print that not every improvement reaches both consoles. This is likely because of the discrepancy that has arisen these days around the differences between the two Microsoft consoles. Obviously, Xbox Series S isn’t going to hit native 4K, but that’s something we already know.
The most striking is that it’ll allow up to four players to play cooperatively on the same console. This expands the split screen option thanks to the additional power offered by the new generation. In addition, there are changes to the split screen mode for two players; you will be able to choose between vertical and horizontal split. This is what the developers had to say:
“Borderlands 3 will be playable on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5. Series X and PS5 will support 4K resolution at 60fps in single player. With the power of the new consoles come new features, additional ways to enjoy local play: three and four players.
Additionally, we’ve heard your requests for the two-player splitscreen feature loud and clear – the two-player co-op vertical splitscreen will be available in next-gen versions of Borderlands 3, and will also be added to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 via a free update.”
The arrival of this update will be free, coming after all the post-launch DLC we’ve had from the season pass. This support has allowed the game to stay fresh after a year of action. The fourth and final DLC just arrived, a new campaign with the psychopath from Borderlands 2, Krieg.
That’s everything we know about the Borderlands 3 next-gen upgrade. Are you excited Xbox Series X and Series S? Let us know over on the forums. Whilst you are here, why not check out some of our other articles?
